Boulder Falls On R.R. Track
The presence of mind of Engineer Thomas Dunlap, at the throttle of the L.V.R.R. morning train, last Wednesday, averted a wreck as he brought the locomotive to a stop with the cow catcher touching a two-ton boulder on the track, just after the passenger train had rounded the curve east of the Soisson brick plant, near Kingston. The huge rock had broken loose from the high bank which rises at the side of the right of way and had rolled down the grade onto the tracks.
Passengers were thrown forward by the suddenness with which the train was halted and received a shaking up, but no one was injured.
The rock resisted all efforts of the train crew to push it from the tracks and 15 male passengers on the train were pressed into service. With their combined efforts the massive stone was rolled from the tracks.
