Suggest Change In Bridge Plans
New Site Said to Be Shorter and in Better Location
Cost Estimated at $500,000.00

W. V. Hyland, superintendent of the Ligonier Valley Railroad, and John Seger, president of the Seger Coal Company, both of Ligonier, called on the county commissioners Monday afternoon with suggestions concerning the location of the proposed overhead bridge across the railroad tracks at McCance and across Loyalhanna creek just west of the crossing. Both these men and the county commissioners are anxious that the bridge shall be erected in the near future.

The two Ligonier men and the commissioners and the county civil engineer studied the blue print map that the State Highway department made and sent to the commissioners several weeks ago. According to the blue print the proposed reinforced bridge would be constructed from a point several hundred feet west of the McCance school house and extend in a direct line over the railroad tracks and Loyalhanna creek, a distance of almost a quarter of a mile, to the point north and west of the present Long bridge. The rainbow part over the railroad tracks would be 23 feet above the tracks with a slope toward Latrobe.

It is estimated that the proposed bridge with two way tracks and sidewalk for pedestrians will cost the state and county at least $500,000. The commissioners and Mr. Hyland and Mr. Seger who are interested in the bridge believe that a better location for the bridge may be had where the bridge would be shorter and cost several hundred thousand dollars less. It is possible to construct a bridge, they claim, a short distance southeast of the proposed bridge that will be as serviceable and as safe as the one now blue-printed by the State Highway Department.

Officials of the highway department will be consulted soon about the shorter, more economical and better location for the bridge. Greensburg Morning Review.
