Bridge Plans Ready For Hearing
Announcement has been made that a public hearing on the proposed bridge across the Loyalhanna at Long Bridge will be held by the Public Service Commission at 9:30 April 26, in Pittsburgh. At the hearing testimony will be heard on the adoption of plans and specifications which have been prepared by the State Highway Department, providing for the elimination of the grade crossing over the L.V.R.R. The plans, which are in the court house, call for a reinforced concrete structure to be about 25 feet above the level of the railroad tracks as described last fall by the engineers who surveyed the site.
The new bridge will have a span of 300 feet across the creek with piers. The western
end will be much lower than the eastern end. The Lincoln Highway over the bridge which will accommodate two automobiles, will be straight at both ends. As the bridge will pass over the store and post office at McCance, it will be necessary to move that structure.
If the plans and specifications are approved at the hearing in Pittsburgh it will be the duty of the Public Service Commission to apportion the const of constructing the bridge among the Ligonier Valley Railroad, the State Highway Department and the County.
