Still Drilling At Deep Well
Up on Chestnut Ridge, near Ligonier, Westmoreland county, the Peoples Natural Gas Company is still drilling at is deep test on the Seger Brothers farm. They have now reached a depth of 6,866 feet and drilling in a close, hard formation. They are now a good many feet below where they expected to find the gas and are still hopeful that they will get a producer.
On the Booth & Flinn property in the same locality they are down 6,305 feet. The well has been shut down for some time to cement the hole. The formation in which they stopped drilling was so soft that it would not stand up. This well has to go 539 feet deeper before reaching the depth at which the first well on the property got its gas.
The Seger farm well is drilling at 32? feet below where the first test on the Booth & Flinn property was completed. Like all wildcat wells there is more or less guess work as to where the producing formation may be encountered. This is all the more uncertain as the wells are located high up on the mountain.
