Mail Sack Stolen At Latrobe Station
Contained From $8,000 To $10,000 In Cash And Valuable Letters
Five Mail Sacks Left Unguarded

Monday evening of last week about 9 o'clock a locked mail sack with four others was left at the Latrobe railroad station by the mail carrier having charge of the mail delivery between the Latrobe post office and Latrobe railroad station, awaiting the arrival of the train carrying mail and going west. It is reported that the sacks were left unguarded for a short time before the arrival of the train and when the sacks were placed on the train there were four sacks instead of five the number placed on the platform by the mail carrier, the locked sack in the meantime being stolen by unknown thief or thieves.

The stolen sack contained from $8,000 to $10,000 in cash, most of it sent over from Ligonier by Monday evening mail and taken to Latrobe post office for delivery to railroad station to be sent to Pittsburgh. The money was insured and will be made good to the parties sending it.

There is no clue to the theft, but detectives have been on search for the missing sack and the thieves ever since. The sack was not missed until some time Tuesday morning when its loss was discovered at the Latrobe post office.
