Samuel Seger's Death
Samuel Seger, 49 years old, of the firm of Seger Brothers, coal and coke operators, died at the Latrobe Hospital at 12:30 o'clock Monday morning of acute indigestion following an illness of 15 days.
Mr. Seger was born in Indiana county September 15, 1870, and when four years old moved with his parents to a farm near Ligonier. He resided there 15 years. At the age of
19 he left the farm with his brother John, engaged in the merchandise business and formed the Seger Brothers company, of Ligonier. Later the brothers started in the lumber business. They continued in it for several years and then engaged in developing the coal fields of the Ligonier Valley. The company is still operating, having plants at Millwood and Ligonier. The partnership of the brothers has extended over a period of 30 years and has been successful in all lines undertaken. Mr. Seger was a director in the First Savings and Trust Company of Derry and an active business man.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, Charles, of Millwood, and Jay, at home; and three daughters, Mrs. John Gazley, of Pittsburgh, and Clara and Roma, at home. Three brothers, John, of Ligonier; Walter, of Derry, and Peter, of Millwood; and one sister, Mrs. Jane Crann, of Wilpen, also survive.
Funeral services were held at the home of John Seger at Ligonier at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Services were in charge of Rev. William Hunter, Jr., pastor of the Ligonier Methodist Episcopal church. Interment was made in the Ligonier Valley cemetery.
A wonderful profusion of flowers, the gift of Mr. Seger's friends, including the different coal companies of this section, the employees of Seger Bros. And others were banked around the costly casket that contained the body of the junior member of the Seger Bros. firm. A large number of people were present at the funeral services.
