Thousands Of Coal Cars On Siding From Pittsburgh To New York
Awaiting To Be Moved And Unloaded
Reports are current that there are many thousands of coal cars on the sidings along the railroad tracks from Pittsburgh to New York City and Philadelphia awaiting an opportunity to be moved and unloaded. The congestion is caused by the inability to secure vessels in which to transport the coal. Thousands of tons of coal are ready for shipment for which there is a good market whenever the cars standing idle for want of being unloaded at their destination can be moved.
The sidings along the Ligonier Valley Railroad have nearly all been crowded with loaded cars of coal for several days. The chief thing detrimental to the coal trade at present is the inability to have the coal that is being mined promptly shipped and gotten out of the way. It is hoped that this difficulty will soon be overcome and that the new year's business will go forward with the tracks and sidings all cleared ready for activity in this business which is an indication of the business progress of nearly all industries.
