Soisson Brick Company Installing New Machine

Out at the Kingston plant of the Joseph Soisson Fire Brick Company, men are at work on the installation of a large Freeze brick machine with a capacity for turning out 6,000 paving blocks or building brick an hour.

With the machine ready for operation, it is expected that the plant will be started up, following a shut down which has been on since the first of the year.

Up until last fall, the Kinston plant of the company was engaged in making coke oven brick, principally, and its operation was dependent largely, upon the demand for brick of that kind.

Experiments made by the company are said to have developed the fact that its shale was admirably adapted for the making of paving blocks, and tests made on blocks manufactured at the plant are declared to have shown an abrasion loss of but from 15 to 18 per cent. this being remarkably low.

The company thereupon determined to install a brick making machine, and to devote the plant largely to paving blocks, being confident from the tests, that the best paving block made in Pennsylvania, could be turned out there.

In the event that business justifies it, the company will add to the number of its kilns at the plant, with the idea of making its burning capacity the equal of the machine which is now being set up.

Vincent Soisson, the secretary of the company, was a visitor in town, yesterday. He expects the coming summer to be attended by lots of paving in this end of the State, and that the Kingston plant will be kept busy. He spoke of the Kingston block as being the best made in the whole State.
