Dug First and Last Coal in Fort Ligonier Mine
More than ten years ago, when the Fort Ligonier Coal Company was organized by Captain James Peters, to develop a small tract of coal near Ligonier, Daniel Rhodes, a veteran miner dug and delivered the first wagon of coal.
A few days ago, Mr. Rhodes got out the final wagon, the tract of coal being exhausted.
Throughout the entire ten years he was in the employ of the company, enabling him to figure in the remarkable capacity of being the miner to get out the first and the last wagons mined at the plant.
Immediately following the removal of the last wagon of coal, the work of dismantling the plant was undertaken, under the direction of Mr. McLain, the superintendent.
