L.V.R.R. Crossing Problem May Be Solved More Effectually Soon

Instead of the posts which had been suggested to mark the limits within which cars should not be left standing, on the L.V.R.R., Superintendent W. V. Hyland is planning to use switch lights, in the interests of safety for employes.

While the Ligonier Valley trainmen might quickly learn as to the location of posts, and to look out for them, there would always be danger that Pennsy railroaders, unacquainted with their location, might stumble over them, in the darkness.

By substituting lights, this danger can be obviated, and the superintendent expects to have them installed just as quickly as possible.

The lamps, when placed, will serve at "cutting posts," meaning that cars may not be left standing within two car lengths of the crossings. With this rule rigorously enforced, it is felt certain that the danger incident to the use of the crossings will be materially lessened, as the users will be enabled to see both ways for some considerable distance.

Superintendent Hyland expects to meet with the councilmanic committee some evening this week, at which time he will submit the question as to whether an underground or an overhead passage way, for the especial use of school children, is the more desirable.
