L.V.R.R. Official Endeavoring To Minimize The Crossing Danger
That he would be only too glad to meet with a committee of councilmen, for the
purpose of discussing the local crossing situation, was the declaration made by Mr. W. V. Hyland, the general manager of the Ligonier Valley Railroad, yesterday, when asked as his sentiments regarding the crossing problem.
Mr. Hyland asserted that he would be entirely willing to take up the matter at any time, with the councilmen, and he also asserted that his company would be willing to do everything possible, within reason, to minimize the danger and the inconvenience occasioned by the crossings.
The L.V.R.R. crews had the strictest orders, he stated, relative to blocking crossings, and he believed that little or no complaint could be made on this point, as far as they were concerned, while he also said that the men connected with the crews were constantly alert in an endeavor to safeguard the children making use of the crossings.
Despite their watchfulness, however, Mr. Hyland said that he knew the crossings to be a source of danger, especially to children, and he averred that the company would be willing to put in an underground crossing for their especial benefit, the crossing not only affording a safe means of passage, but also a way by which the children would be kept from being late at school due to the blocking of crossings by trains.
Throughout the entire interview, Mr. Hyland displayed a manifest inclination to do everything within his power, in an endeavor to ameliorate the conditions.
