Settlements Effected in L.V.R.R. Suits, Following Verdict in Johnson Case.
Physician Get $9,000

The jury in the case of Dr. J. B. Johnson versus the Ligonier Valley Railroad Company found in favor of the plaintiff in the sum of $9,000.

The verdict was read in court, this morning.

Dr. Johnson asked for $30,000 damages to recompense him for injuries received in the Wilpen wreck.

Following the announcement as to the Johnson verdict, the attorneys interested in the other damage suits held brief conferences and it was made known shortly that settlements had been reached in two of the cases.

Mrs. Myrtle Ankney, who asked $18,000 damages for the death of husband, who was a fireman on the freight train, settled for $6,500.

Miss Bessie Hoon, who was injured, and who asked $5,000 damages, settled for $2,800.

The other two cases, the one that of W. Miles Tosh, who asked $5,000for the death of a father, and the other that of Charles Eicher, who also sought $5,000 for the death of a father, were non suited, the plaintiffs failing to appear. Whether this was because of having no ground for action, or whether because of settlements effected out of court, was not made known.

This ends the damage suits against the L.V.R.R., except for the suit of Charles Kuhn, the conductor. It is not listed for this term.
