Rushing Work At New Lumber Mill

The work of the new lumber enterprise north of town is being pushed forward rapidly. Mr. Scott, the general manager of the project, is having everything pertaining to getting ready for operators pushed forward with the utmost speed. Eight cars loaded with the lumber mill being shipped here from West Virginia arrived this week and more will soon follow. The switch from the Wilpen branch of the L.V.R.R. will be laid in a short time. The grading and laying of the railroad track from the lumber mill up past Kissell's Springs hotel and into the mountain to tap the large timber tract is being hustled under the management of the contractors, Carson & Joyce, of DuBois, Pa. The road has already been graded up as far as opposite the village of Waterford and ties and rails will soon be in place.
Arrangements have been made for starting a boarding house at Oak Grove for the accommodation of the men employed on the work of putting up the limber mill and grading and getting the railroad ready for operations. Messrs. Carson & Joyce have about 50 men employed on their part of the work and are making things hum. An addition has
been built to the McKelvey house about 18x40 feet and other arrangements to give the men comfortable quarters and plenty to eat. John A. Wallace, who had a public sale last Friday, with his wife has taken charge of the boarding house and every part of the this arrangement will soon be in fine shape.
Oak Grove is getting awake after years of quietness and will seem in a few days like a hustling business center of industry. We are glad to see this work go forward in the hands of enterprising men, as it means work, business and money for Ligonier valley people.
