Ligonier Valley's New Railroad Will Maintain Passenger Service
Ligonier liverymen are facing the prospect of having a goodly source of income
whiffed away from their stables, once the Ligonier Lumber Company gets its railroad built from Oak Grove to Kissell's Springs, a distance of upwards of four miles, along Mill Creek.
The farm houses located along the creek, and the houses at Waterford and Kissell's are popular with Summer boarders, and thus far the liverymen have enjoyed quite a tidy bit of business, delivering the boarders and bringing them back again.
The Ligonier Lumber Company, however, expects to carry a combination coach at the end of all its trains and to make regular stops at Kissell's and at Waterford, for the accommodation of any who may wish to travel thereon. No schedule time will be guaranteed, but it is expected that the company will enjoy considerable passenger traffic, for all that, providing it makes connections with the L.V.R.R. train on the Wilpen branch.
The Ligonier Lumber Company is expected to let the contract for the construction of the railroad within the present week. It is expected that the road can be built in about four weeks. The company will have its own engine and cars.
An ornate office building is being planned for the mill site at Oak Grove. It is to be faced with slabs, giving it the appearance of log construction.
