New Plant Is Now Being Built In the Ligonier Valley Region
The Connellsville Coke & Fuel Company is rushing ahead the building of 80 new
ovens at its new plant in the Ligonier valley, and has the railroad from the plant of the Marietta-Connellsville Coke Company's works, almost graded. The railroad between the two plants will be 3,700 feet in length.
The new works will mine and coke coal from the 105-acre tract recently bought from
Judge John B. Steel and others of Greensburg. The new works will get an apportionment of 75 acres of the track while 30 acres will be given the Marietta plant. R. Marietta, of Connellsville, is the chief operator in the two concerns, and W. L. Kelly, of Scottdale is secretary of the Marietta-Connellsville Coke Company.
The new works will be modern in every respect and will be equipped with a compressed air coke drawing and loading machine, invented by D. B. Stauft, formerly of Scottdale and now of Uniontown. The machine is being built at the Scottdale Foundry & Machine Company's plant in Scottdale.
