Second Survey For New Railroad
Being Made Along Eastern Part of Ligonier Valley
Sixty-Day Coal Options Taken

A second survey of the proposed new railroad from Jones' Mills Donegal township to near New Florence is being made at present. This proposed railroad is said to be a part of the Western Maryland system, mention of which was made a few weeks ago in the Echo and extensively published in other newspapers of Western Pennsylvania being based upon the story as told in the Echo. The second survey is being made to more carefully examine the route and establish a grade that will be satisfactory to the officers of the company. In the same connection it is authoritively stated that sixty day options are being taken up of the coal field extending along the valley from Jones' Mills and beyond to New Florence. This is the Freeport vein of coal and is said to be especially good for steam coal.

The railroad as stated before in the Echo proposes to cross over into Indiana county near Pack Saddle and enter Indiana county via Blairsville. If this road goes ahead it will give Ligonier valley a tremendous business impetus, increase real estate values and open up a new field of coal developments and bring large tracts of timber close to market and start great local activities.
