Improvements Carried Out By Pennsy At Station

An improvement on the Pennsylvania Railroad that will result in the saving of considerable time to eastbound trains and also result in greater safety to trains was made yesterday when an interlocking switch was placed in use about 150 yards east of the local depot. The switch which is operated from "KR" tower, will control traffic to and from the Ligonier Valley branch and also in and out of the local freight sidings The control of this switch being placed under care of the operator will mean a much greater degree of safety for the trains as there will thus be less chance of through trains colliding with local freight or shifting engines using the freight or Valley tracks. Dwarf signals will show engineers the position of the switch.

Another improvement was the removal of the semaphore signals on eastbound track No. 1 from west of the depot to a short distance east of the same. This signal, also controlled from "KR" tower, will allow passenger trains eastbound to come to the local depot and receive or discharge passengers while waiting for a preceding train to get clear of the "block". Formerly the train, when closely following another, would stop west of this place and, after getting the block, proceed to the depot where another stop had to be made to receive or discharge passengers, thus losing many valuable minutes.
