Ligonier To Boom
Report Of Steel Plant For Town Other Plants
If straws show which way the wind blows, then Ligonier is due for a boom that will eventually place the town high up in rank in Western Pennsylvania as a business center. According to occasional words dropped here by traveling men from Pittsburgh, plans are being laid by some of the Smoky City capitalists to give Ligonier a big steel mill. No definite plans are yet known to have been formed and who the financiers are that would head the project, are not known; but it is believed that the Mellons, who control the Ligonier Valley Railroad, are interested in the movement.
One thing that adds a little color to the rumor from Pittsburgh and seems to point to a greater future for Ligonier than that of a summer resort, is the erection of a handsome station building for the L.V.R.R. Costing $75,000, it takes a place among the finest station buildings in the state. It is a fine piece of architecture, of handsome and costly material, and is built along the most modern lines. Ligonier has had the railroad outlet for quite a number of years, but no such station has graced the town until the present date. That the Mellons should so suddenly decide to give this place such a costly station after all this time, is taken as a sign that they expect something more here in the near future.
Another industry just added to those in the local coal field is the south Ligonier Coal
Company. Their plant is just about completed and operations are expected to begin within a few days. Only the raw coal as it is mined, will be shipped. The presence of this plant is highly welcomed and it is expected that it will add much to the business welfare of the town. Greensburg Tribune.
