A Ligonier Business Gone
The Last Of The Byers-Allen Lumber Company Shipped Away

The lumber, the mill and all the equipments of the lumber mill of the Byers-Allen Lumber company were shipped away this week and now nothing remains of the prosperous lumber business of the company which was one of the leading industries of Ligonier for over ten years. This company which owned extensive timber tracts of land on the mountain between this and Somerset, cut the timber and had it brought down to Ligonier over the P. W. & S. R.R. where it was cut into marketable lumber. This company had much to do in building of the railroad through to Somerset. This company in its active industry and enterprise was quite an advantage to Ligonier business and is being missed.

While the company was doing business here the president of the company, Capt. Byers, made his home here until his death which occurred about two years ago. The Capt. made many close friends while here. We are sorry to see the last vestige of this lumber industry go, but the timber on their mountain land tract being exhausted and the land sold to the state for a timber reserve there was no further business for the company here.
