Pennsylvania The Railroad Commission has handed down an opinion to the effect that no railroad in Pennsylvania chartered under the act of 1848 can charge more than 3 cents a mile for through passenger fare, nor more than 3 1/2 cents a mile for local fares. The decision grows out of the complaint of G. T. Mathews, of Rector, Somerset county, against the Pittsburgh, Westmoreland and Somerset Railroad, a 25-mile line constructed to carry lumber from Ligonier to Somerset. State Senator J. Henry Cochran, of Williamsport, is president of the road. The answer to the complaint was that the company lost money carrying passengers at seven cents a mile.
