Railroads Founder Mourned at Latrobe
Ligonier Valley Line Shows Respect to Memory of Judge Mellon

Latrobe, Pa., Feb. 4. The engines and stations of the Ligonier Valley railroad are draped with crepe owing to the death of Judge Thomas Mellon, of Pittsburgh, who established the road. He, with his son Richard, built it in 1877.
It was first a narrow gauge road, connecting Latrobe with Ligonier. After many years of service it was reconstructed into standard gauge, and is now an important line, furnishing an outlet for the recently opened coal field of Ligonier valley.
