Foreigner Never Budged When Car Was Smashed And Wreckage Piled Up On Them
Whitney Car Was Sideswiped Yesterday Afternoon
Liggies Engine Tank Punctured
And Wreck Crew Had To Be Called Out

The combination baggage and passenger car, used on the Whitney branch of the PRR was put out of commission, late yesterday afternoon as the result of a singular wreck which occurred in front of Dr. J. A. Hartmann's home. The baggage end of the car was smashed almost to kindling wood and the entire car will have to be rebuilt. The Whitney train was being switched over on the LVRR tracks when an eastbound freight train come along and sideswiped the car, hurling it off the track and bumping it into a LVRR engine which was standing on the main track of the latter road. The eastbound freight never stopped after sideswiping the car, but continued on its way every car on the train being badly scraped by the end of the Whitney car, which projected out over the tracks. The LVRR engine, into which the Whitney car was bumped, escaped without much damage, the puncturing of its tank having been the extent of the damage done it.

The wreck crew was called out from Derry at once, as the eastbound track was blocked by the wreckage, and it was nearly an hour before the car had been replaced on its trucks and hauled out of the way.
