Trains To Somerset Tied Up Since Last Friday Night
Last Friday night there was a cloudburst on the mountain causing a tremendous downpour of rain and big flood along the line of the Pittsburgh, Westmoreland & Somerset railroad near the head of Linn's Run.
As the Friday evening train which leaves Ligonier for Somerset at 6:50 o'clock was going up the mountain along the Linn's Run it was met by a tremendous rush of waters and logs coming down the railroad track and the engineer was obliged to stop the train and in a few moments the water began to wash away the track under where the train was standing. The train and engine was blocked by logs and held in position until the high water which lasted but a short time had subsided.
The train was thus stranded on the mountain where the passengers had to remain all night in the coach of the mountain train. Telephone communication was secured about midnight with J. C. Andrews, Jr., at the electric light power house and assistance and men to repair the damages were put at work repairing the track and bridges washed away. Everything will be in its usual working order not later than today.
Since the road has been out of service the people have found out how much it is used and needed. All speed possible has been used by the management in putting the road in proper shape again.
