Farmers To Mine Their Coal
Fairfield Township Land Owners Have Organized Company with Capital Of $500,000
The Valley Coal & Development Company, composed of a number of the farmers of
Fairfield township, has been organized, with a capital stock of $500,000. Application has already been made for a charter.
The company owns over 4,000 acres of coal underlying several farms. The entire tract is in Fairfield township, with the exception of 200 acres in St. Clair township. The body
of coal extends from La Colle, on the main line of the Pennsylvania railroad, to Ft. Palmer, six miles northeast of Ligonier.
It is the purpose of the company to develop the field at once. Operations will begin at La Colle. From this point the coal will be shipped over the Pennsylvania railroad.
