The P. W. & S. Tunnel
The Work Progressing Along The Route To Somerset

The work along the route of the Pittsburg, Westmoreland & Somerset Railroad is progressing and by early next spring regular trains will be running from Ligonier to Somerset and return and opening up a trade all along the route which will find an easy outlet through Ligonier to Pittsburgh.

The tunnel which is being opened at present, mention of which has already been made in the Echo, is the only obstacle now in the way of an early entrance into Somerset. The tunnel has now an opening through, but there yet remains 200 feet long, 12 feet deep and 20 feet wide to be taken out before the track can be laid through. One mile of rails have been hauled around the tunnel and over the hill and placed on the track of the South Penn roadbed. It will be seen that as soon as the work in the tunnel is completed that it will require but a short time to complete the road.

The work is being pushed forward rapidly and if the weather permits will be completed in about two months.
