Marker Heirs Verdict
Jury Awards Damages of $1,250 Vs. L.V.R.R. Co.

In a trial extending over four days at Greensburg last week before Judge McConnell's court, Mrs. Rebecca E. Marker and children, heirs of Harry Marker, of Ligonier, in their case against the Ligonier Valley Railroad Company in the Common Pleas court, received a verdict for $1,250. This sum was awarded to compensate the plaintiffs for damages done their farm in Ligonier township in having a portion of it taken in the building of a branch of the Ligonier Valley to the plant of the Peters Coal company which is located on the A. B. Myers farm. The entire tract consists of 135 acres, valued by the plaintiffs at $35,000. There was a decided variance in the estimates of damages by witnesses, the amount running from $200 to $7,000.

The jury was selected and sent out last Wednesday to view the premises and after their return the case was continued until Saturday when the above verdict was returned.

A committee was appointed by the court last summer to view the premises and assess the damages. This was done and the damages placed at $1,000. From this finding the Marker heirs appealed.
