Poor Old Horse
Appears To Take Delight In Stopping The Liggie

For the past three or four days nearly every train on the Ligonier Valley Railroad has been forced to stop, in the neighborhood of Long Bridge, and the engineer has had to go ahead and drive an old broken down horse off the track. The horse appears to take a delight in getting on the track whenever a train hoves in sight, and as there is danger of causing a wreck in case he were run over, the train has to be stopped and the horse driven away.

The horse is a castaway. Too old to work, and too worthless to feed, the owner abandoned him to nature and the animal lives by walking up and down the railroad tracks, nibbling the tender grass that grows on either side. Being toothless he has a hard time getting enough food to continue his existence, and hes a pile of living bones.

This morning he wandered up to Jess Cogans farm, and Mr. Cogan took him in. If the owner does not call for him soon, Mr. Cogan will use the animal for a hat rack. The animal is blind of one eye, and it is thought, from his failure to get out of the way of the trains, that he cant see out of the other.

And Her Name Was Maud.

While making the trip over from Ligonier last evening the passenger engine on the L.V.R.R. struck a young cow that refused to get off the track, and killed her instantly. The Accident occurred near Kingston. The train was made up of seven cars, all of which were crowded with people out from the city, and the train was running rapidly in order to make connections. The people in the train did not even feel a jar, but the cow did.
