Ex-Treasurer of Cameron County Meets Death in Horrible Form Fell Between the Cars Was Inspecting a Lumber Tract for His Employers When Killed Was Prominent in Business
Special to the Pittsburg Post.
Greensburg, Pa., May 5. - Charles M. Thomas, ex-treasurer of Cameron county, who is interested in the development of a big timber tract in the Laurel hills for the Byers-Allen Lumber Company of Buffalo, was jolted from a logging train this morning and so badly injured that he died soon afterward.
Mr. Thomas left the company offices, at Ligonier, early this morning for the logging camp on a Pittsburg, Westmoreland & Somerset train. At the top of the mountains he remained on the train, while cars were being drilled upon a siding and fell between two cars. Before the train could be stopped several cars had run over him and he received fatal injuries.
The body was taken to Ligonier. Mr. Thomas home was in Emporium. He was 54 years old. He was an experienced lumberman and had been connected with the Byers-Allen company ever since he had completed his term as treasurer of Cameron county two years ago. A son of Mr. Thomas met a violent death last December. While preparing for a hunting trip his gun was accidentally discharged, killing him instantly. Mr. Thomas body will be sent home tomorrow.
