Since the publication of the newly chartered Westmoreland Central Railroad Co.
numerous inquiries are being made and received daily, for various kinds of
manufacturing sites along this new proposed railroad, by large manufacturing concerns from many parts of the country. To this may be answered that there are thousands of acres of level bottom land with water, coal, timber and limestone in abundance along this proposed railroad being suitable for most any kind of manufacturing plants. Thousands of acres of coal land are being leased between Ligonier and Donegal along the proposed route by eastern companies.
Never before in the history of Ligonier valley have we seen so bright and promising a future, nor so warm a public sentiment towards any company as toward the Seger Coal & Coke Company, Inc., who have begun operations on the developing of their coal and timber property, which consists of over 6,000 acres of the choice coal and timber land in the valley, much of which is the famous seam of Pittsburgh and Connellsville coking coal running from 7 to 9 feet thick. Coking test has been made of this coal and proved highly satisfactory. This company being a home industry with several of our town's most prosperous and determined business men, with other Pittsburgh and vicinity capitalists heading the enterprise, gives it assurance of great success and a promising prosperity for the valley.
The preparing of timber for tipples and building of houses has commenced, ties for the railroad are being rapidly made and delivered along the route and grading of railroad is
being pushed as rapidly as possible, which assures business and prosperity and leaves no trace of doubt to the people of the valley but that things are in a prosperous condition.
Surveys of railroad, plans for 200 coke ovens and tipples, etc., can be seen at the office of the company, West Main street.
For those who are seeking safe and profitable investments we will say it would be to your interest to call or write to the office of the Seger Coal & Coke Company, Ligonier, Pa., for full particulars of stock. The Company shows good financial standing, etc., and can give the best of references.
