Kerbaugh Gets The Job
Receives Contract for Work Between Latrobe and Derry, to Cost $400,000

H. S. Kerbaugh, incorporated, has just received the contract from the Pennsylvania railroad for the construction of two additional tracks between Latrobe and Derry at a cost of about $400,000. The improvement will extend the four track system to Derry and will continue the big work carried on between Pittsburg and Latrobe during the past four or five years. The improvement will give employment to about 1,000 men for the reminder of the year.

The two additional tracks will be built to the south of the present main tracks and will start from the bridge east of the Ligonier Valley terminal in Latrobe. About 500,000 yards of rock and earth will be removed. Several steam shovels will be put on the work at once and the contract will be rushed through this fall. The new work will join on the east the expensive elevation of the Pennsylvania and Ligonier Valley terminal at Latrobe. The bit improvement has not yet been completed, although the finishing touches are being made to it.

The two additional tracks planned will give the Pennsylvania greater facilities in the heavy freight movement in and about Latrobe. Because of the main lines congestion and because of the improvements under way at Latrobe the Pennsylvania has practically rendered nil the one time heavy excursion business to Idlewild, the excuse give being a refusal to give excursion rates. It is said to be the intention to hurry through this year all necessary improvements in and about Latrobe that are contemplated so that the way may be opened for a large excursion business next season.
