Will Build Road
Oliver & Snyder Company to Develop the Ligonier Valley
The eastern part of Westmoreland county will soon have another railroad. It will be an independent road and will extend from Bolivar on the main line to Ligonier, a distance of 14 miles, and will cross Fairfield and Ligonier townships. It will be built by the Oliver & Snyder Steel company of Pittsburg, who recently purchased over 1000 acres of coal in Ligonier valley. The road will have a regular passenger service and will be an important outlet to the East for Ligonier Valley. As soon as the rights of way have been obtained work upon its construction will begin. This it is thought will be accomplished within three or four weeks at the farthest. It is expected to have the road completed and in operation in a few months. This will open up one of the most important coal, timber and stone fields in Western Pennsylvania and will prove a big boom to the famous Ligonier valley. Oliver & Snyder, the projectors, expect to make it a first-class road and also to maintain a first-class passenger service, which will prove a great convenience to the people in the eastern part of the county.
