New Railroad Chartered
Another Road Projected To Traverse Ligonier Valley
Ligonier Valley is to the front again for another new railroad project and the
development of the coal field of the southern part of the valley. The Greensburg Press is authority for the following railroad and coal news:
"The Indian Creek Valley Railroad Company was chartered at Harrisburg last week. It is composed of Westmoreland and Fayette county capitalists and W. A. Kalp, of Mt. Pleasant, is president. The capital stock is $1,500,000.
"It is proposed to build a railroad four miles in length, running from the mouth of Mill Run into Springfield township, Fayette county. A large body of coal recently acquired will thus be developed.
"The line will also extend into Westmoreland county. It will traverse the Ligonier Valley via Indian Head, Mechanicsburg and Donegal and connect with the Pittsburg, Westmoreland & Somerset line.
"Messrs. Kalp, O. P. Shupe, John Husband, J. D. Hitchman and other Mt. Pleasant capitalists have an option on several thousand acres of coal in the upper valley that they propose to develop."
This will be encouraging to our Ligonier and Cook township neighbors who are trying to have their coal fields tested that they may be placed upon the market.
