Ligonier Valley Coal To Be Developed
Oliver & Snyder Co. Pittsburgh Will Commence Operation
Payment Was Made Yesterday
Pittsburgh Vein Of Coal North Of Ligonier Will Be Scene Of Active Operations Coal To Be Mined, Ovens Built, And Railroad Constructed In Near Future Engineers Are Now Busy At Work
The long waited for consummation of the purchase of the leases on the Pittsburgh vein of coal north of Ligonier, seems to have at last arrived and the farmers in that section are rejoicing. Arrangements have been made by the Oliver & Snyder Company, of Pittsburgh, through their attorneys for the payment of the farmers for their coal territory
recently leased and a payment is being made on Tuesday of this week. This makes assurance doubly sure that the work of development of this coal field will proceed and sends the variest doubter to the wall.
Engineers have already done considerable work in that section and have been busy surveying for the past week, for a railroad to bring this coal to market which will be a
necessity and work on this part of the plans of the coal development may be commenced very soon. While it was at one time somewhat in doubt whether the road would be built via Ligonier, it is now assured that the railroad will be built to Ligonier and the coal taken to market this way. This is good news to all Ligonier people, as it will bring much business in this direction.
The sale of the coal territory, the mining and the preparation of the coal for market, the building of a railroad and the shipment of the coal means the employment of much labor and the expenditure of considerable money in the valley and cannot but be of great financial benefit to our people.
