FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!
The Large Ice House of the Ligonier Ice Company
Last night (Tuesday) between 10 and 11 o'clock the lower ice house of the Ligonier Ice
Company, situated at Bell's Station, on the Ligonier Valley Railroad, two miles west of
here, was totally consumed by fire. The building was a massive structure, being 100 feet
wide by 120 feet long, and 32 feet height. The building contained between seven and
eight hundred tons of ice.
It was undoubtedly the work of an incendiary, as there had been no one about the
building for several weeks. A number of theories are rife as to the motive of the fire.
Some think it was the fiendish work of some person who held a spite against the
company, while others are of the opinion that is was done for the purpose of robbery in
the neighborhood. The loss is estimated at between $10,000 and $12,000, part of which
is covered by insurance. It is not at all probably the building will be rebuilt. It will not
necessarily interfere with the ice business here as the company have still a large building
in excellent shape.
