A Notable Funeral
Services Over the Remains of the Late William Darlington Yesterday
Yesterday afternoon the funeral services of the late William M. Darlington were held at his late residence, Guyasuta station, on the West Penn Railroad. Not for many years has there been such a notable gathering of the aged business and professional men of Pittsburg as were here seen. Venerable John Harper, dignified Judge Mellon, Edward Gregg, N. B. Hogg, John A Renshaw and William A. Herron were included among these. The attendance from the city was very large, while Sharpsburg sent one-half her population.
Among the floral tributes around the casket was a large design in the shape of an open book, typical of the deceaseds literary pursuits. It was made of white flowers, while across it worked in colored flowers were letters forming the word Finis. Rev. Dr. Purvis, of Pittsburg; Rev. William Gibson, of Sharpsburg, and Rev. Mr. Teeters conducted the funeral services. Sampsons carriages then conveyed the friends and relatives to Allegheny Cemetery, via the Sharpsburg bridge. The pall-bearers were Mr. Charles J. Clarke, Judge Collier, Judge Over, Judge Mellon, Mr. Charles E. Speeer, Mr. William A. Herron, John A. Renshaw and John B. Jackson.
