The New Locomotive
The Ligonier Valley Railroad, under the successful management of Superintendent Senft, is ever progressive. Its business is increasing with great rapidity and recently reached that point where another heavy locomotive was an absolute necessity. The new machine arrived in Latrobe some time Sunday night last and was taken to Ligonier Monday morning where it will be set up by a gentleman who accompanied it.
It was built at the well known Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia, and is a forty-five ton engine with an eighteen inch cylinder and a twenty-four inch stroke. It is fitted with the Westinghouse air brake apparatus and all the modern improvements and was built specially for the Ligonier Valley road. It is handsomely (missing) and has lettered on the cab the (missing) R.B. Mellon, a former superintendent of the road. The new locomotive is known as No. 7 is somewhat (missing) and more powerful that (missing) WE congratulate Superintendent Senft on his new acquisition (missing).
The new locomotive, the R. B. Mellon, is now hauling freight and passengers on the L.V.R.R. Engineer Sam French holds the throttle.
Dont forget the big picnic at Idlewild on the 4th of July for the benefit of the Holy Family Church. Trains every hour, good music, dinner and supper, dancing and other amusements.
The picnic season has opened up and Idlewild, on the line of the Ligonier Valley Railroad, is sustaining it reputation as one of the most prominent resorts in this part of the State.
