The Picnic at Idlewild
According to previous advertisement a grand picnic was held at Idlewild Parks, on the line of the L.V.R.R., on Saturday last, July 4th, under the auspices of the Holy Family Church, of Latrobe. Commencing early in the morning trains ran hourly between Latrobe and the picnic grounds.
Each train was heavily loaded with pleasure seekers and we understand that in the neighborhood of fifty-two hundred tickets were sold, thus carrying decidedly the largest number of people that was ever moved over the road in one day.
The weather was all that could be desired and as far as we have been able to learn everything passed off pleasantly.
The great feature of the day was the game of base ball between the Latrobe club and the G. C. Duncans, of Pittsburgh. A score of the game in detail will be found in another column. The people were so well pleased with this picnic that they are now anxiously awaiting a repetition of the affair.
