Operations Commenced
The Ligonier Blue Stone Company Broke Ground Monday Last - Where The New Quarry Is Located
Some time ago a notice was published in these columns to the effect that a new blue stone company to operate in this neighborhood had been formed by Pittsburgh capitalists. The organization in question is known as the Ligonier Blue Stone Company and their place of operation is located along the line of the Ligonier Valley Railroad near Long Bridge. The new quarry is on the same side of the Loyalhanna that the railroad is but is situated a considerable distance up the side of the ridge. Monday morning last a large
force of men with picks, shovels and wheelbarrows were started to work and are now busily engaged stripping the rock. At this place it is covered with from two to four feet of soil only and is very easy to get at. We understand that the new company will shortly put a much larger force of men to work and with the latest improved machinery will manufacture a superior quality of paving blocks, etc. We wish them success.
