Disastrous Fire

A Greedy Conflagration at the Blue Rock Stone Quarries Destroys Building and Burns $125 in Money - Total Loss Estimated at $500.

About 4 o'clock Friday afternoon last the famous Blue Rock Stone Quarries, located along the Ligonier Valley Railroad, a short distance from Latrobe, were visited by the fire fiend. It broke out in a rough board building occupied by Tim Connolly and family. One room, or a little building adjoining, was used as an office by Michael Murray, superintendent of the works. The shanty occupied a position between the L.V.R.R. and the hill. It is supposed to have caught from a spark from the stove falling upon the roof. So rapidly did the flames spread that almost everything in the building was destroyed and it was only by superhuman efforts that the large shanty nearby was saved. Connolly and family lost everything they possessed in the world, all their household goods, clothing and one hundred and twenty-five dollars in money. Mr. Murray succeeded in saving his books but almost every other article in the office was destroyed. The total loss is estimated at $500.
