Latrobe Advance
Wednesday, January 3, 1883

The gauge of the Ligonier Valley Railroad has been changed from the narrow to the standard. Long ties are being put in as rapidly as possible, the roadbed newly ballasted and everything put in first-class running order. One twenty ton second hand engine is now doing all the work of the road and is kept very busy. A new, late improved and in every way modern locomotive is being built for the road and will be put on as soon as completed. We understand also that new passenger and freight cars have been ordered and will be put on as quickly as possible. Until further notice there will only be two passenger trains over the road each day one in the morning and the other in the evening. Much credit is due Mr. Senft, the general superintendent, for the able manner in which he conducted the work of changing the gauge of the road.
