Lutheran Sunday School Picnic
The Largest Gathering Of Sunday School Children Ever In Westmoreland County - Fully 2,000 Persons Present - Everybody Happy And An Enjoyable Time Had
Friday last the grand union picnic, which was advertised to be given by the different Lutheran Sunday Schools in this part of the county, was held at Idlewild Park, along the line of the Ligonier Valley railroad. Friday morning the weather broke calm and clear and things were propitious for a good time. At an early hour the Latrobe Junior Cornet Band appeared on Ligonier street and marching up to the Lutheran Church, escorted the Sunday School children to the first train over. The little folks were all dressed in their best, and with bright, eager and expectant faces presented a beautiful sight. The Johnstown Accommodation train over the P.R.R. brought representatives from the
Lutheran congregations at Derry, and other points, while the Day Express and Mail train, from the west, brought the Greensburg Lutherans to Latrobe. By this time the regular train over the L.V.R.R. was ready to depart, and on this occasion the large train was again crowded to its utmost capacity.
