Another Stone Quarry
The neighborhood of Latrobe is becoming famous for its stone quarries. Another institution of this kind will shortly be opened along the line of the Ligonier Valley Railroad. The new work will be located at Long Bridge, in the ridge. One of the gentlemen comprising the new firm is a Mr. Harrison, who is somewhat known around here. He built the first block of coke ovens erected by Preston, Davis & Co., at the St. Clair Works. The new stone firm will devote their attention almost exclusively, so we understand, to taking out Belgian Paving Blocks. Nothing but Negroes will be employed in the quarries. The work, we believe, will be on the opposite side of the Loyalhanna from the L.V.R.R., and if this is so a new bridge will have to be put up at that point. There will be one advantage, however, very little stripping will have to be done as a great deal of the rock is exposed.
