Latrobe Advance
Wednesday, June 22, 1881

The managers of the Ligonier Valley railroad are having a handsome open or observation car built. It is almost done and will be put on the road as soon as completed. The passenger coach which is being built by S. H. & R. Baker, of Latrobe, is also rapidly nearing completion.

The reason the new steam motor on the L.V.R.R. has not been run regularly is because there was not sufficient tankage to carry the water to supply the boiler. That difficulty has been overcome, tanks having been placed in position. The tanks are stowed under the seats which run lengthwise of the car. It is very probably that this machine will be used to make the regular Sunday run.

From Bills printed at this office, we learn that a Grand Picnic will be given at Idlewild Park, on the Ligonier Valley Railroad, on Monday, July 4th, 1881. Excursion tickets will be issued at very low rates, and trains will run every hour to the grounds. A large and commodious covered platform has been erected, and an excellent band secured. The management extend a cordial invitation to all, and assure them a day of pleasure.
